2017-08-16 Current Prevailing Wage Rates

ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF LABOR

Bruce Rauner

Joe Beyer

Governor

Acting Director

August 8, 2018

Dear Public Official,

The purpose of this communication is to provide notice that the Illinois Department of Labor will be posting 2018 prevailing wage rates for your county on Wednesday, August 15, 2018. The Department has determined in its discretion that the posted rates will take effect on August 15, 2018. Thus, these rates are required to be paid for work performed on or after Wednesday, August 15, 2018. You will be able to access the 2018 rates here.

The Prevailing Wage Act (820 ILCS 130/0.01-12) requires contractors and subcontractors to pay laborers, workers, and mechanics employed on public works projects no less than the general prevailing rate of wages (consisting of hourly cash wages plus fringe benefits) for work of similar character in the locality where the work is performed.

Pursuant to 820 ILCS 130/4, public bodies with active public works projects are responsible for notifying all contractors and subcontractors working on those public works projects of the change (if any) to the rates that were previously in effect. The failure of a public body to provide such notice does not relieve contractors or subcontractors of their obligation under the Prevailing Wage Act, including the duty to pay the relevant prevailing wage in effect at the time work subject to the Act is performed.

If you have any questions, please contact the Conciliation and Mediation Division at (217) 782-1710 or (312) 793-1812, or email us at dol.pwd@illinois.gov.

Sincerely,

Illinois Department of Labor
