Fire Truck Department Background:
The Chatham Fire Department is a Combination Department consisting of 32 dedicated members (Fire Chief, 14 full-time Firefighter/EMTs, 18 volunteer Firefighters and Firefighter/EMTs, and an Officer Manager). The Fire Department was first organized in 1928. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were added to the Fire Department in the late 1970's. The Chatham Fire Department now provides Advanced Life Support Response, Haz-Mat Response, Technical Rescue Response and Structural Firefighting Response. The Chatham Community Fire Protection District covers 75 square miles with a resident population of approximately 15,500 and growing. The Department presently averages 700 calls annually and of that 700 calls, 75% of them are EMS related. The Department has an insurance rating of Class 4 for urban and Class 9 for rural.
