Containers for yard waste may be either a reusable container clearly marked “Yard Waste” or a paper or other biodegradable bag with a capacity not to exceed thirty (30) gallons. The Village’s Contractor will pick up an unlimited-number of containers at curbside. For curbside pickup, all containers shall be placed near the street in front of the residential unit. It shall be the responsibility of each resident to see the containers are placed curbside by 6:00 a.m. on the designated collection day Monday April 5 and Monday April 19. Curbside refers to that portion of the right-of-way adjacent to paved or traveled roadways. Bags shall only contain leaves and or Grass Clippings. Feces or Garbage will not be picked-up. Nothing herein shall limit residents of the village from disposing of yard waste at their own expense in accordance with their respective waste haulers' rates and procedures.

217 Area Code Dialing Changes Began February 27 A new area code has been introduced in Central Illinois. The new area code of 447 which will overlay the existing 217 area code which covers 36 counties and includes Chatham, Champaign, Urbana, Decatur, Springfield, Danville, Quincy, and Rantoul. This means when you dial a number you will now be required to dial the area code before you dial the number. This is important to remember when calling from a land line or cell phone that the, Village Office Number is 217-483-2451 and the Village Police Number Non Emergency 217-483-2453. 911 still works the same as it has.

The City of Springfield, in collaboration with the Illinois Environment Protection Agency (IEPA), is hosting a voucher-only residential Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on Saturday, November 7 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. Since this event is in conjunction with the IEPA, the drop off event is offered to ALL Illinois residents. In order to participate, residents will need to request a voucher from the City of Springfield’s Office of Public Works. Vouchers will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents MUST have a voucher in hand or available on a mobile device to drop off items. Please note: You must be an Illinois resident to participate in the program. This is only open to residential households. This program is not open to organizations or businesses.
