Chuck Herr

Trustee Charles (Chuck) Herr

Trustee Chuck Herr was fist elected to the Village of Chatham board in April 2001.   He has been re-elected twice and recently started his third term.

Chatham Trustees are elected as non-partisan candidates to represent all citizens of the entire Village.  Chuck is committed to considering all input and striving to do what is best for Chatham now and in the future.  Working together with all other members of the Board and the Village staff to reach any decision is paramount to good government for all citizens.

Mr. Herr grew up on a farm near Chatham and has lived in the Village of Chatham since 1974.   He has been married to his wife Kay, who was a Chatham School District teacher for 34 years, for 42 years.   They have two children and two granddaughters.   Mr. Herr attended Chatham schools and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1960.   He is a veteran of the US Air Force, attended Southern Illinois-Carbondale and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois-Springfield in 1974.   Mr. Herr retired in 2007 from Horace Mann Insurance Company after 35 years where he was Director of Finance and Planning/IT.

Mr. Herr has been involved in community activities and service for many years including: youth sports programs, youth mission trips, 10 years as Trustee for the Chatham Area Library Board, Salvation Army Advisor Board, Chatham Recreation Board and is a member of the Chatham Chamber of Commerce.

His current board and committee service includes:

Chairman- Public Works Committee
Member – Village Administrative Committee
Liaison for the Village to the Chatham Chamber of Commerce
Treasurer for the Chatham United Methodist Church
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation – board member

Mr. and Mrs. Herr are active members of the Chatham United Methodist Church where they teach an adult Sunday school class and Mr. Herr is an usher.
