CHATHAM

In addition, Chatham is located within one hour of Bloomington and Decatur and within 90 minutes of Peoria, Champaign and St. Louis.

FESTIVALS
Chatham's civic/service organizations present a variety of activities throughout the year. The American Legion sponsors a three-day homecoming celebration each summer, offering entertainment, carnival rides, parade, and food. The Chatham Jaycees present a Sweet Corn Festival every summer, a national award-winning three-day event featuring food, entertainment, an arts and crafts show, a 5-K run, and much more. The Junior Woman's Club sponsors the Christmas Bazaar and the Spring Bazaar Chatham. Chatham Gus Macker also hosts the annual 3 On 3 Basketball Tournament in August.

EDUCATION
The Ball-Chatham School District is a unit district, with two elementary schools, a intermediate school, a middle school and a high school. Consistently high achievement test scores reflect the community's commitment to excellence in education. Three pre-schools and a pre-K program provide early education. The Capital Area Career Center serves the high school student interested in vocational training. Nearby Lincoln Land Community College and University of Illinois at Springfield, as well as several other nearby institutions, offer higher level educational opportunities.

HEALTH CARE
Family health care is provided by four family practice physicians. Two dentists serve the community. Three area hospitals, all within minutes of the Village, meet both urgent and long-term medical needs. The Southern Illinois University School of Medicine enhances the environment of latest medical care.

QUALITY OF LIFE
"Building on its heritage, shaping its future" is Chatham's slogan. Community pride and citizen participation characterize the Village. Opportunities to get involved abound through numerous volunteer organizations. Chatham is a safe place to live. Recreational programs and facilities encourage a healthy life style. Restaurants and shopping are available in town, with major shopping facilities only minutes away. Nearby performing arts and cultural organizations enrich the lives of Chatham residents. The Chatham Area Library District offers extensive services to the community. Chatham has nine churches. Finally, Chatham is also a leader in community recycling.

RECREATION FACILITIES
Three existing parks provide playground equipment and several baseball diamonds. The recently opened Chatham Community Park is a 72 acre park, which will feature four lighted baseball diamonds, soccer fields, lighted tennis courts, an open air pavilion, jogging paths and natural open space. The Summer Recreation Program offers a variety of recreational activities for all ages. The Youth Basketball Association, Chatham Baseball, Inc. and organized soccer leagues provide opportunities for team sport participation for hundreds of boys and girls. The Senior Center and the Community Center are sites of numerous programs and activities. Nearby Lake Springfield provides swimming, fishing, boating, and picnicing facilities, while the adjacent Wildlife Sanctuary offers a natural setting for quiet walks and observing nature. Eight public golf courses in Sangamon County are available to Chatham residents, as well as several private facilities. Indoor recreational facilities offering activities such as roller skating, ice skating, tennis, racquetball, and physical fitness equipment are nearby. There are two zoos that feature several exotic animals. Also in the planning stages is a six mile bike/hiking path from Chatham to Springfield.
